Igel & Paola

Igel, Paola and Rambo (their rat terrier dog) have been cycling around the world since 2001. By 2009, they’d covered 29 countries, mostly in the Americas.

Now (in 2011) they’re heading from Germany to Asia, and they are going to change their vehicles as well: the next leg of the big journey will be on trikes with two dogs, with Rambo and his daughter Caramba! Follow their epic journey on their website: Grenzenlos (No Borders)

Meet Megan and her border collie Gracie. They both love cycling, so when Megan goes on a bike tour, Gracie is carried along – not in a trailer but in a backpack designed for young kids. Together, they’ve completed two trips from Washington DC to Pittsburgh and back, via the C & O Canal and the Great Allegheny Passage.

Fin & Zoa Gypsy

Fin & Zoa Gypsy

An unlikely quartet formed in the dark of an Icelandic winter when a Canadian girl met an Aussie boy. With a thirst for adventure they quit their jobs, sold everything that couldn’t fit on the back of their bikes and pedaled into the unknown. Blissfully ignorant of what they were getting themselves into, they chose to take their two furry sidekicks, Jack and Paco, along for the ride.

Nobody wanted to look after them, and the quartet did not want to be apart, so the two SPCA rescued dogs added 60 kilograms of luggage in one hefty swoop. By day two of the journey half the team had crashed down a steep gully into a bed of stinging nettles. Although the team continues to question their
sanity, more than one year later they are still pedaling and living a simple life propelled forward out of necessity and wanderlust; food, water, warmth, shelter, and the never-ending horizon.

Keep up with their adventures at the Cycling Gypsies website or check out their photos on Redbubble.

Mike & Family

Mike & family

This photo of Mike & family was taken during a bike tour on the Kettle Valley Railroad Trail – 6 days fully loaded from Midway to Penticton in British Columbia, with their dog Sunnie in the front basket! In case you’re wondering, the basket is a Wald 957, perfect for carrying your smallish pet along (Sunnie weighs 13 pounds). As for Mike, he’s touring on a 1982 mountain bike that he got off Craig’s List for $40 – proving that you don’t need a fancy bike to join in the fun.
