Ride & Glide

“I am an overweight, unfit, 50 year old Occupational Therapist, ex-teacher and gliderpilot. For my 50th birthday I decided I would embark on a series of journies that would see me visiting every gliding club on the planet.”

“I am about to embark on the first stage of the journey, a ride from Germany down through to South Africa. I am hoping to raise funds for charities connected with assisting disabled people. More details on www.rideandglide.co.uk - find out why I chose a bicycle over a motorcycle for the journey.”

“One bit of advice – hills are great on a fully loaded touring bike ……. when going down them!”

“We have been touring for about 30 years. We were inspired by Liz’s friend Pamela, who cycled solo through Africa in the early 1980s. We now have 4 unpublished journals, including Rome to Madrid, the TransAm (USA) and the North Sea Cycle Route. Still wondering what to do with them!”

“When I was 10 years old I cycled from Prestwick in Scotland back home to Newcastle, England with my Dad. They were fantastic memories which I never forgot.”

“Now age 47, with a re-discovered passion for cycle touring. I’m taking 6 months (possibly longer!) to travel around Europe on my own. Starting at the end of May 2012, I’m spending 3 weeks in the Netherlands, then heading to Arnhem to pick up the R1 Euro route to Berlin. From there it’s the River Salle cycle route through Germany, the River Main cycle route to the Rhine and the Glan-blies cycle route to France.”

“Then I’ll head to the coast for Euro Velo 8 to Cadiz in Spain, straight up the centre of Spain and France before finally arriving back home in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK.”
