Peter Jordan

Posted September 29th, 2010

Peter is a press photographer who works for a newspaper in London, where he also lives.

“I got hooked into cycle camping after reading Alastair Humphreys’ two books on his round-the-world adventures,” he writes.

“I have a Surly LHT and take it out for 3 day trips every 2 weeks, leaving London via one of the NCN routes with a Sustrans map and all the essentials. I manage roughly 40 miles a day, which at 51 I don’t think is too bad!”

“I love the wild camping part of it and am becoming good at it. I would like to go on longer trips outside the UK, but have the usual obstacles to move out the way first.”

Peter’s website is Drunkon2Wheels.

Ellen & Elmar

Ellen van der Zwan and Elmar van Drunen cycle together as much as they can and chronicle their trips on their Fietsjunks website (in Dutch). Ellen is the photographer – see her lovely images taken while cycling – so this photo only shows Elmar.

As a pair, they’ve visited countries such as Chile, India, Iceland, Alaska, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China.

“Elmar van Drunen also loves mountainbiking and road racing when he’s in Holland and he publishes technical articles all related to cycling. I am a freelance photographer and work for Dutch magazines such as Bike&trekking, Op Pad and Outdoor Magazine,” says Ellen.

“We are planning a 2-year trip starting in 2013. We would like to cycle from Alaska to Argentina. This year we’ve planned trips through Czech Republic and Canada.”

Rick in Ankara web version

In 2005, Rick Gunn set out on a 3-year journey around the world that turned out to be as much a spiritual journey as a physical one. From the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, he pedalled through 35 countries and wore out 4 bicycles, before completing his circuit.

Rick now gives talks, inspiring others to see the world in a different light. You can listen to an interview we did with Rick.

If you want to explore Africa though the eyes of a cyclist who takes beautiful photographs, do check out Take On Africa – the account of Helen’s 20,000km bicycle journey from the UK to South Africa. Her journal updates are well worth a read too. All in all, an excellent way to share in an amazing bicycle tour.
