“I have breathed the air since 1963. Although I have lived some days on this planet, I still do not have always a clear vision about my life! Regardless, hiking at home and around the world on foot as backpacker or by bicycle is one of my permanent life values, as is photography. In 2008 I decided to make my first long trip on a bicycle: a 72-day solo trip through Turkey and Persia. It was one of the most powerful experiences I had.”

“After a few holidays on bikes, we realized that there’s no more freedom than that. In 2009 we cycled all over Denmark and in 2010 to Vietnam. Both totally different but both extremely beautiful to cycle!”

“Due to these trips we decided to cycle to Sydney Australia, starting on 3 March 2012 in Breda, the Netherlands. The trip of our lifetime!!! Yahoo!!!”

“In 2008 we were coming to the end of a 2 year backpacking trip in Asia, and were tiring of that form of travel.”

“We’d met plenty of cycle tourists in the Stans the year before, had liked the idea and decided to try it out with a cycle home to Oxford from Istanbul. The freedom and joy at being outside all day soon had us hooked on two-wheeled travel, so we headed to South America the following year and spent 19 months cycling on that beautiful continent. Out there we soon discovered that our favourite rides were on quiet roads in the mountains, well away from traffic and the big cities.”

“Stories from our trips are at Pikes On Bikes  and we’ve set up Andes By Bike, which has route information and maps of many of the small routes we cycled in the Andes.”

“I am from Malaysia, and love to cycle tour. The photo here is from my trip to Koh Samui, Thailand. Actually, this was my first trial in cycle touring and i love it. Since my state (Perlis) borders with Thailand, it’s easy for me to ride in Thailand instead of touring in Malaysia. It’s a peaceful ride in Thailand and I don’t usually take the normal road but try to use small roads through the villages. For this year (2011), I plan to ride all over Malaysia in December. Happy cranking to all.”
