“We sold our house and belongings in August 2009 and set off from our home in Scotland to cycle the countries of the world. We have been cycling ever since and loving every minute.  So far, we’ve cycled in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Spain, Portugal, France and the UK.”

HI. My name is Michal. I am originally from Poland but I live in the UK. I work as a bike mechanic and ride the bike everywhere, but I am new to bike touring. I have loved the bike since I was a kid but I have become fully committed to it since 2007 when I started to work as a cycle messenger in London. Since then, the bike is always with me, even when it isn’t. My friends joke that I was born in SPDs and call me Bicheal :)

I love touring as a new way to meet new people. Somehow they become more friendly to you when you carry all your life on the back of your bike.

“We have just completed our first cycle tour of 6684 kilometres; we started out on April 2, 2011 and got home on July 19, 2011. We travelled from our home in Malaga in the south of Spain up through France, up to the UK and to Nottingham where our families live.”

“We spent a week with friends and family and then set off back via Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, across to the south of France taking in a few alpine passes and Mont Ventoux as we went, eventually arriving back in Spain and back home to Malaga. The trip was a fantastic experience, from which we learned a lot – things we would do again and things we wouldn’t. I hope to undertake something similar in the not too distant future – just not sure where or when yet.”

“I started cycle touring late in life, mainly as a way to carry camping equipment after my knees packed in. Since then I’ve completed a number of Scottish Island tours, several charity rides and many home-to-work commutes. My fitness has improved no end.”

“The photo is me at the Northlink ferry terminal in Lerwick waiting for the sailing to Aberdeen. My website www.bikerider.talktalk.net is a labour of love which I hope will help and inspire others to take up touring with a bicycle.”

“After a very long break from cycling (work and kids), I decided that the time was right to get on my bike again. Money being short, I picked up this Schwinn frontier for not much money. I decided on a easy start to my touring, Glasgow to Balloch, Loch Lomond, then over to Drymen ending up in Balmaha, Millarochy campsite. An overnight stay there fighting off the midges then a 4.30am start back to Glasgow following national cycle route 7 from Balloch. A great ride out!”
