I use ziploc bags now and they really don’t hold all my cables well. The water resistance would be especially useful considering my knack of not doing the smartest things. I learnt the other day that an iPod Nano when thrown in the laundry and dried ends up with a non-functional backlight and that my front right pannier wasn’t quite as sealed as it should be when I went running waist deep in to the Pacific!

These WaterField Designs bags are just the thing for me. They will keep me on the road, even in the wonderful British rain, and all my delicate communication gadgets dry, for longer miles.
This is why I’d love one of em.

In late October / early November I will be flying to Kenya, teaching English in the school I’ve been raising money for (see website) and cycling back to Oxford (admittedly with a flight over Sudan) over 6 – 8 months.
I’ve bought an Asus EEE 1015 this week on TravellingTwo’s recommendation, and I’m planning on taking my iPod too. Got to keep all this technology wrapped up safe somehow!

As both a Bikeability Instructor and British Cycling Coach for All Ability Cycling, I am kept busy with events and fundraising etc. so have to constantly do things on the run. To have these bags means safer transportation of electrical bits and bobs that would make my life so much easier especially now I’ve also been offered a position on the Events Team at the Paralympics for cycling.

Anything that can replace a zip-lock is good but this sounds like it goes beyond good to great. Smooth surface will make it easy to pack. Safe transportation is also a plus.

I recently took the plunge and moved into the world of Micro 3/4 photography, which equals lots more little bits to carry around (lens filters, cables, mini-tripods, voice recorder etc). Those bags (thanks for the review) look to be a good way to organise things!

I’ll be doing it alone from the end of october ending at the brandenberg gate on armistace day november 11th, its all for hedley court charity and follows a 900 mile route. Every bit of good quality kit helps as at that time of year the french weather is totally unforgiving!

As an automotive engineer, I often use multi-modal transit from Chicago to Milwaukee. I have an abundance of proprietary (read: expensive!) cables and devices that I have to carefully wrap and place in my panniers. It would be great to have a bag to keep all my cables in that can hold up to the abuse of being bounced around for hundreds of miles while protecting whats inside.

Free gear for computer geeks. I travel with an Electric Ukulele that I plug into Garageband on my MacBook and I love organization. You can guess how many cables I carry. Not in the thousands but quite a few. Then there is my iPod and speakers and my camera. Did I tell you I just did the Pacific Coast Route and am heading back this winter to see massive waves on the Oregon Coast. Oh yea.

We are not even up to the zip-lock standards…still using regular old plastic bags from the grocery store.

I’m so fed up with the crumpling of those bags when my husband’s scrounging around for the right cable or cord…getting a brand-new gear bag will save my sanity.

I’ve been travelling the low tech way, using magnetic compass, paper maps and (gasp) pencil and scraps of paper to blog my rides in Asia.

My wireless cyclometer would like some high tech company for the thousands of km to come, and asked that I join this contest so its wish would come true.

Im doing a long bike trip slightly differently, in that Im doing a long route but broken into chunks.

I started in 2009 cycling the length of Britain returning to ‘normal’ life for a period to regroup, refinance and plan, I then cycled France and Spain before returning home once more. My next trip is from Northern Morocco down into Africa. My long term aim is to eventually get all the way to Cape Town. Then move over to south america and cycle up the continent.

The point of the trip is that a big journey doesn’t have to be an all consuming life event and that with all big trips, its ok to break them into smaller chunks.

I’d use these bags on my trip instead of my trusty but frequently breaking supermarket carrier bags.

Great blog BTW. Absolutely loved your book!

I bleed biking through and through.

Your website has inspired a trip around the world teaching sustainability and living arts. I am so excited that you guys have been so generous and have eliminated so much work for the next travelers. I started a non-profit and in six months, with the assistance of your survival guide, will journey for 5 years spreading education. I hope to promote you guys whilst travelling, and it would be nice to get some free gear as well. One love, keep pedaling!

I sure hope I am picked randomly to win this item. I’m 62 and not able to ‘retire’ yet I’m planning on an extensive bike tour next year (2012). I’m building two businesses right now that rely heavily on internet access. I’m planning on taking an iPad on tour vs my MacBook because it is lighter and actually has some very cool features that would be great to have on a tour.

Over the past 3 years I’ve changed my life dramatically. First finding a botanical formula that eliminated the chronic pain I lived with for 18 years caused by a knee injury. That pain led to an increasingly sedentary life, which led to morbid obesity, chest pains, trouble breathing, etc. I felt like a ‘walking dead woman’.

I’ve used other products from the same company that have helped me shed unwanted pounds, build my immune system up so that I am never sick any more, given me energy and vitality to live the life I love. I’ve discarded 156 pounds and have about 45 more to go I’ve become an athlete: doing a triathlon (swimming 1/2 mile, biking 20, hiking a 1,550 ft mountain instead of running); I’ve done a century ride on my old heavy mountain bike with 3,700 feet of climb; and I did my first tour (solo) last year – 500 miles from Pittsburgh PA to Washington DC.

My next adventure is in the planning stage – either a C-to-C (San Francisco to Florida); or New Orleans up the Mississippi to Minnesota; or perhaps a European loop. While I think having a cycling partner would make an adventure of this nature even more fun, I could be doing it solo too.

I’ve truly fallen in love with cycling. Even when I’m tired, if I get out on my bike, my whole mood changes, both physically and mentally. In the past year, I’ve pedaled locally almost 3,000 miles for fun and commute.

Thanks for all the info you share with us.

I just got back from a tour around northern New York State and into southern Quebec. While it didn’t rain as much as my last tour (Iceland) it would be great to give my Ipod a little more protection then plastic bags I get from grocery stores on route.

For the next trip… not too sure as of now but the idea of Ireland or Whales has been tossed around!

I love gadgets and therefore I need gadget bags. What could be more logical, if not practical. My wife and I are 40 something touring newbies, we have toured extensively around Yorkshire and Humberside this year just aquiring our Claude Butler tour bikes. Good sites like this with a passion for travel are hard to come by without the big sell. Your site has tempted us to try France or Holland as a first distance travel. Love the Explorer magazine. We could do with something to store documents i.e travel insurance etc so the wallet is a good idea. We would be happy to test drive it and provide a review. Keep up the great work.

Touring in Ireland on a 25 year old Peugeot 103 Carbolite and wild camping year round, means a constant battle with rain as far as electronics are concerned. Any solution to the fragility of zip-lock plastic bags would be welcome. For anyone interested in travelling in Ireland, don’t let the rain put you off – there is no such thing as bad weather – just inappropriate clothing! Am biding my time till my RTW trip, where I think the only thing I will miss will be our generous supply of rainwater…

I will be touring in Spain and across North Africa during the winter. This is when it really, really rains. I often worry about how to bring my electronics such as my digital camera, hard drives, and more. I plan to do a lot of video interviews with locals exploring the Islamic world and asking their views on the meaning of life, the values and morals that they carry, their hobbies and favorites that they enjoy, and even life lessons that they’ve learned. A lot of this will require a lot of storage space and there is no better place than to put my storage in one of these waterproof cases! Cheers. 🙂

I commute 200 miles per week in Southern California rain or shine. Mostly shine. I really use what I have on my bike. City streets are sometimes like a jungle out there : ) I dream of touring one day in New Zealand! After hear your podcast about how you can pick wild oregano and dinner plate mushrooms and eat them for dinner absolutely blew me away. I am a vegan and hearing a story like that was awesome. Of course your description of the many other sites and the people hooked me on that trip. I actually made it a “Bucket List” trip to do before I die. Mean while I will settle for a west coast Seattle to LA trip until my kiwi adventure. It appears there are many other worthy folks in this contest, it must be hard to choose. If I win I promise to put it to good use for sure!

Take care and thanks again for your inspiration,

Would love to win the bags for my next touring adventure. Having just returned from a tour in Tuscany last evening, I can relate to filling the panniers with lovely wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and praying that the zip-lock bag enclosed electronics survived the journey. Happy to say they did, but would love to eliminate having to worry about that next time. Cathi

During our European leg of our bicycle odyssey, the keyboard on our Sony Vaio shorted out when it got wet in our panniers during a torrential downpour. The rain damage eventually caused our laptop an early death. For our new laptop we were smarter (but not smart enough) and put it in a separate waterproof bag.

Not smart enough as on our recent tour of the UK my bike fell over and landed on the pannier with the laptop in. Even though the laptop was in a quilted protective bag which was then in its waterproof bag which was in between clothes and books in the pannier, it managed to get squashed and the laptop screen shattered. We have a one inch area on the bottom left hand corner of the screen which we can still see enough to read emails.

We would love to have protective bags to keep laptop number 3 save and sound on the next leg of our journey.
    Thanks!

Travelling, fundraising and managing poor mental health, as I did this year, means relying on electronics to stay in touch and grounded. Peoples messages really kept me going and keeping my gadgets in zip lock bags and an old camera case (iphone) was always touch and go on rough surface etc.
The next ride will probably see me much further from home and these lovely cases would be a real help to that by protecting my electrical gear.

We are cycling around Australia 18,000 kms in 7 months to take 20,000 pictures and 300 videos to show the world just how beautiful Australia and nature really is.. after the cycle ride if we raise enough money we will plant 8000 trees with greenfleet. We could use a case for our to protect our gear from the harsh deserts of the Australian outback…. if that is not a reason for a bag I don’t know what is 🙂

Waterproof Kit Bags to hold select items dry through a week of downpours & touring, always lifts the spirits. On the long winding roads, it’s the simple things like a change of dry socks & t-shirts at the end of the day combined with dry goods like hot tea and steel-cut oats, with a touch of brown sugar and raisins to float one’s boat. Good things come in small packages. Please Mister Postman send two free cases from WaterField Designs to me. Think I’m gonna sing now.LOL

I use various ziplock type bags for food and strong plastic document bags from wh smith for cables and electronic gear. Plus a few dry bags come in handy. These products look really useful.
