Going to Mexico on your bike? If the answer is yes, take a look at (and download) these very detailed – and free! – road maps.

The maps are produced by Mexico’s department of transportation; the Secrectaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes or SCT. They highlight back roads and dirt tracks, as well as main highways. They’ve kindly been put online by Nico, who’s spent the last few months cycling from Canada to Mexico. He says:

My research into Mexico maps or cycling routes was limited to tracking the routes of other cyclists whose blogs I had followed during the planning of my trip, most of which consisted of the coastal highway route after arriving on the mainland at Mazatlan.

After a little hunting, Nico stumbled on a reference to the SCT maps, although the process to pick them up in person seemed a bit complicated. With a bit more Googling, he found the SCT maps online and decided to store them on his own website. Now everyone can download them easily, to refer to on a smartphone or print at a local copy shop.
