Day Trip to Brighton

I took a little trip to Brighton on Friday — a well earned day off work after covering double shifts and weekends for colleagues.

A discarded Sudoku puzzle was waiting for me on the train

I met Jayme there, a Canadian friend who is teaching in Southampton, and we had a nice day out shopping and lunching. There aren’t many pictures here but just a few things that caught my eye, including the new puzzle craze in the UK, Sudoku. I am really starting to enjoy photography now in a way I haven’t for ages. The digital camera makes it so easy to play and this website makes it very easy to share. Perfect!

Some speed shots

Took a little stroll around Canary Wharf the other day, the new home of the company I work for. It’s very much “pinstripe suit land” — lots of chain stores and upmarket coffee bars — but it does have some great architecture. And once you get outside the boundaries of the financial area there are some less gentrified areas, like Chrisp Street Market in Tower Hamlets. I’ll share some pictures of that with you another time.

British Beer Festival Pilgrimage

The first drink of the festival
Every August CAMRA holds the Great British Beer Festival in London. We are big fans of this fair because it’s just about the only chance you have to taste hundreds of beers in one shot. Unlike wines, in even the best pubs you normally only ever see a few selections outside the main brands, so this is really something unique. And heck, who are we kidding, it’s a good night out with friends. In fact, it’s a bit of a party! That’s why you’ll see us with silly balloons on our heads and other shennanigans. It would be rude not to get into the spirit of things!
