The internet is a convenient way to keep in touchwith family and friends back home. Since Syrians were first allowed access to the web in 2000, internet cafes have popped up all over the country. The number of access points is still not equal to the situation in Morocco or Turkey but you will easily find a high-speed connection in any decent sized city or town. The cost for one hour is normally 50 SP and if you buy chunks of time the cost can fall as low as 30 SP an hour. In some towns such as Hama and Palmyra the price for an hour can be 75-100 SP but this is rare.
Payphones can be hard to find but mobile phones, phone cards and SIM cards are available everywhere.
