In 2005, Rick Gunn began a 3-year trip around the world by bicycle.
He drained his savings accounts to make the trip happen and then rode through 35 countries, experiencing everything from incredible kindness to great sadness on his own personal journey of self-discovery.
Rick talks to us about the inspiration for the trip, his favourite places, the difficulties he encountered along the way (including losing a wallet full of money in China and getting his bike welded at a muffler shop) and what he’s planning next.
This podcast also includes a sneak preview of what’s coming up on TravellingTwo.com – a free Bike Touring eBook!

Very, very inspiring stuff. Thanks for a great interview with Rick. I think one of the questions it has left me asking myself, and which Rick touched on at the end of the interview, is after a world tour – what next? How to you cope with coming down after that high? What do you follow that up with? Hopefully what comes next is better, rather than an anti-climax.

Just took a look at Rick’s photos on his website. They are simply amazing.
Sooooooooo…how much did he spend?
