Thanks for the bike review. Looking to do a big trip and will look at you site. Thanks.

  2. I am using a Safari for my bike trip form Alaska to Argentina, bought it a bit ago to start breaking in, and I love it. The bars are great, preset to upgrade to disc brakes is amazing, and the price cant be beat. Plus, REI support anywhere you can find a shop.

Thanks for the review and the info. I whole-heartedly support the Safari.

I have a REI Novara Safari(2008),26 inch wheels, this is a GREAT!!bike, I love it, I use it mostly for commutting, but I will be touring on it soon I hope. This bike is fast, and strong and comfortable for that type of bike.

the safari is made of steel now, no longer aluminum. :(

That’s why I want this bike. Aluminum welds fail with the kind of loads I put on a bike (I’m 200lbs+) and it’s very hard to find a chromoly bike these days.
I’m glad that REI offers one! I’m waiting for their next 20% off sale to get one.

    Novara Safari
Last year rode this bike from Greece to the Atlantic in France. Stock, except for tires 2,500 miles.
Much of the route off road. Good bike, I have over 25,000 miles and this is one of the best bikes for the money. I am now going to e bikes as I am 74. THe bike is for sale for $495.
