Specs: Aluminium frame, steel fork, aluminium rack, Alex rims, disc brakes, Shimano brakes and derailleurs, Truvativ crankset and cassette. Comes in 26″ in smaller sizes and 700 cc in larger versions.

A good value bike, with some uncommon extras like disc brakes and expedition handlebars for plenty of hand positions.
Downsides: You’ll need to upgrade the racks for fully loaded touring. The tires and the saddle may also need to be replaced.

  2. I am using a Safari for my bike trip form Alaska to Argentina, bought it a bit ago to start breaking in, and I love it. The bars are great, preset to upgrade to disc brakes is amazing, and the price cant be beat. Plus, REI support anywhere you can find a shop.

    I have a REI Novara Safari(2008),26 inch wheels, this is a GREAT!!bike, I love it, I use it mostly for commutting, but I will be touring on it soon I hope. This bike is fast,and strong and comfortable for that type of bike.

    the safari is made of steel now, no longer aluminum. :(
