In the summer of 2009, Kiki Holl rode the Transamerican bike trail, raising money along the way for Multiple Sclerosis. On her trip, she had to grapple with everything from snakes to potholes and broken bike parts. Fortunately, the kindness of strangers, the camaraderie of friends, and spectacular scenery made 4,263 miles from Yorktown, VA to Portland, OR, then down the coast to San Francisco, CA all worth the effort. On her website, Kiki Bikes Across America, she has some useful information for other riders, like what gear to take, her itinerary and what the trip cost.
