Malaysia isn’t Southeast Asia’s cheapest country but it’s still a bargain compared to most developed countries, as long as you don’t indulge in too much alcohol – it’s very heavily taxed.
Two people can eat a filling meal at one of the dozens of simple restaurants for 10-15RM. A portion of street food goes for 3-4RM.
Here are some typical Malaysian costs in November, 2008:
Small can of beer – 7RM
Iced coffee or tea – 1-1.50RM
Street meal – 3-4RM
Meal out for two – 10-15RM
Budget hotel room – 25-50RM
Internet – 2-3RM/hour
Large water bottle – 1-2RM
