Ferries from Satun to Langkawi in Malaysia and the Thai island of Lipe go from Tammalang Port, about 10km south of Satun.
Give yourself half an hour to cycle to the terminal from the city centre and pick up a snack for the boat ride from the city centre market before you head out. You’ll find ladies out selling trays of rice, topped with chicken and other goodies, from 7am.
At the ferry terminal, there’s an exchange booth, a few convenience stores and souvenir stands, tour operators, a restaurant and a coffee shop. There is no ATM and generally not much to do. The ticket booth opens at 8:30am, an hour before the first boat to Langkawi.
Tickets to Langkawi are 300 Baht each. There is no charge for bicycles but you might get the shock of your life when you watch the ship’s crew lift it up over a large gap between the dock and the ferry to get your bike on the bow. There’s no room to store bicycles in the cabin.
Some schedules are listed below. For the most up-to-date information, see the ferry operator’s website.
