Christi & Tauru

Christi and Tauru are currently (April 2012) riding in Chile, on their way to an 18-month journey across roughly 16,000 miles and 15 countries on a tandem bike from Argentina to Alaska.

Along the way they’ll stop at schools for the visually impaired to talk about their story in hopes to raise awareness. You see Christi is blind and Tauru is going blind. They hope to inspire others with disabilities that anything can be accomplished.

This isn’t the first time they’ve set out on a long adventure. In 2009 they completed a trip across the US.

“I didn’t even own a bike when I was 23 and decided I wanted to try bike touring. I borrowed one, bought the cheapest panniers I could find, took an overnight bus to my starting point and explored my home province of British Colombia for a month.”

“I was hooked after that and convinced a girlfriend of mine to buy a bike and join me for a 6 month trip down the U.S. west coast, the Baja peninsula, and then around Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.”

“The two of us did another trip through Kyrgyztan and Tajikistan where we ran into some very cold weather in the Pamir mountains! Generally, we love dirt roads, high mountains and getting away from civilization on our bikes. We’re trying out a change of pace this fall, though, with a tour around sunny, warm Cuba :)”

“We are a Canadian/Australian couple from Perth, Western Australia. It’s been a dream of mine (Jaime) to cycle across Canada for about 5 years, inspired by a friend of mine who cycled from Montreal to Vancouver. I mentioned it to Nigel while on a bike ride a year ago and surprisingly he was keen!”

“We decided that we would use our ride to raise funds and awareness for old-growth conservation in British Columbia, an issue that we both hold dear. We started out on our trip May 1st, and are currently midway through our journey and have cycled over 5000km on a round-about route to Southern Ontario. We expect to finish this trip at the end of October on Vancouver Island, but hope to do more adventures in the future! Possibly for other conservation concerns?”

“We’ve loved travelling Canada by bike as it is a fantastic way to see the backcountry and the wildlife, and also to meet so many great people. We are blogging our journey at www.tilthelasttree.com

“This was my first cycle tour – through Banff and Jasper National Parks up to the Alaska Highway up to Whitehorse Yukon. Amazing. This site and the eBook advice were crucial for me having never done this, and joining another novice headed to Alaska. An amazing trip.”

“This image is rounding the northern end of Cape Breton and riding a Dean 29er mountain bike with a Rohloff hub. My past trips include the Riva del Garda area of Italy, the Blue Ridge Parkway USA, Route 76 Trans-Am west to east, and Ireland on a tandem.”

“The next trip is this summer (2011): Switzerland’s Alpine Bike 1 with a return trip through Italian Dolomites. After that, my sites are set on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route.”
